Retro Battle Telephones & Radios of the USS Iowa

I’m a pacifist, but I sure do enjoy visiting military museums. Old warplanes, aircraft carriers, and battleships — somehow it’s hard for me to believe they ever worked.

This past weekend, I went to the USS Battleship Iowa (BB61) near Long Beach, CA and checked out plenty of old telephones, radios, and radar consoles. Very Battlestar Galactica, obviously.

As a now elderly musician, I felt at home surrounded by analog gear with manual buttons and switches and dials. Some of it looks like it should be on a guitar pedalboard or rack-mounted in a recording studio. The TA-970U (red phone, early 1980s?) looks like a Whammy Pedal. And the CRV-46147 Radio Receiver (1940s?) looks like something Millennia Media would make.
